After two years of pandemic interruption, the otherwise quiet post-industrial Luxembourg town of Differdange was once again transformed into a real festival town for the Blues Express Festival at the beginning of this summer. An annual high mass that managed to put Luxembourg’s cultural versatility and local musical humus, supplemented by top foreign acts, in the spotlight again this edition.
We were delighted that, after two years of waiting, we were finally able to travel to Luxembourg for our concert in 2020, to open the Big Band Stage and end our spring in style.
After a difficult trip between the artists’ parking lot and the stage – the organization needed some time to get the shuttle bus operation back under control after a 2-year pause – it was immediately clear that the setting as well as the weather gods were on our side to make our passage in Luxembourg unforgettable for both the musicians and the audience.
The joyful enthusiasm and frivolity within the orchestra to finally be able to make music for a larger audience without restrictions was clearly perceptible and worked contagiously on the first group of curious people that gathered at the stage when the first notes were blown during the sound check.
At 6 p.m. we let the Luxembourg audience get acquainted with the unique Q-Some repertoire. We played the well-known classics from our first album dreamin’ like Soft Viking or Powerful People as well as the new award winning masterpieces like Lausanne and Berlin from our second album Consoulin’.
Both the audience and our fellow Big Band Spectrum members were impressed by our set and the energy of our young top talents. Congratulations and compliments in the sense of “discovery of the day” followed in abundance. The organization also looked on with satisfaction and tentatively announced that we would meet again at a next edition.
3 of our band members successfully completed their higher musical studies this year! It has been wonderful to experience their evolution from so close, a privilege to witness it from the front row and fantastic to see all 3 of them deliver a master concert they can be truly proud of. Marthe Van Droogenbroeck (trumpet)...Continue reading...

“We can only underline the versatility of this ensemble; they don’t just stick to one style of music. A complete experience and a beautiful tapestry of sound that makes us dream away and that blends modesty and exuberance.”
“The quality of the compositions, the tight leadership and the ingrained playfulness ensure that this little hour of contemporary big band music does not get boring for a second.“
